What we collect

Two kinds of information. Project information you type into a calculator or quote request: ZIP code, project type, quantity, material tier, timeline, and any notes you add. Contact information you give on the final step: name, email, phone number.

We also record standard technical data — pages viewed, referring site, device and browser type, and an IP-derived approximate location — to operate the site and measure which cost guides are useful.

You can see a full cost range without giving a phone number. Contact details are requested only when you ask to be connected to contractors.

How we use it

To produce the cost range shown to you, adjusted for your metro.
To match your request to licensed contractors covering your ZIP, and to pass it to them.
To email you the range and the guides you asked for, if you opted in.
To improve the accuracy of our published baselines, in aggregate and de-identified.
To detect duplicate and fraudulent submissions, and to bill contractors correctly.

We share your request with the matched companies shown to you before you submit, and we do not resell your contact information to unrelated lead buyers.

Your matched contractors. Up to four named firms, listed on screen before you submit, receive your project details and contact information at the moment you submit — and only those firms.

Service providers. Hosting, email delivery, SMS verification, analytics and payment processing, each under contract and limited to what the service requires.

Legal. Where we are required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.

Consent is given once, by clicking the submit button on the contact step with the consent wording shown directly beneath it. It covers Home Services Marketplace and the matched companies named on screen at that moment. Consent is not a condition of purchase, and you can opt out at any time by telling any caller or writing to us.

Every submission produces a timestamped record of the exact wording shown to you and the firms you were matched with. You can request a copy at any time. How consent works.

How long we keep it

Project and contact information is retained for 24 months from your last interaction, then deleted or de-identified. Consent records are retained for 5 years because they are the record of what you agreed to. Aggregate, de-identified cost data is kept indefinitely.

Your choices

Access and copy. Request a copy of what we hold about you.
Correction. Ask us to fix inaccurate details.
Deletion. Ask us to delete your information, subject to records we must keep.
Opt out of email. Unsubscribe from any message, or ask us directly.
Withdraw contact consent. Tell us, or tell any caller directly, and we will notify the matched companies. We cannot undo contact already made.

Residents of certain states have additional rights; we honor them for all users regardless of location.

Do not sell or share my personal information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you would still like us to record an opt-out preference against your record, tell us and we will do it.
